  3. Cycle Training for Families
  4. Bikeability Level 2 courses for trainees aged 9 years+

Training for beginners aged 6 years+

The training follows the Biking Basics syllabus and is held entirely off-road, in a school playground. Participants must be able to ride without stabilisers. The course helps young children achieve some of the basic cycling control skills. All participants are awarded a certificate and Biking Basics badge.

This 3 hour foundation course is held over 2 sessions of 1½ hours and includes lots of games and fun activities. All bikes and helmets are checked at the beginning of the course. Advance bookings only. The course costs £20 per participant. Parents do not need to stay during the sessions.

Contact us if you are interested in a Biking Basics course.

Training Days for Trainees aged 7 years+

The training follows the Bikeability Level 1 syllabus and is held off-road, in a school playground. Ideal for those aged 7 and over who can ride without stabilisers, but who would like to learn new skills and gain confidence. All participants are awarded a certificate and a badge, and those who achieve the Level 1 standard are awarded the Bikeability Level 1 badge and certificate.

Each session lasts 3 hours, to include a bike and helmet safety check at the start. Advance bookings only. The course costs £25 per participant. Parents do not need to stay during the session.

Testimony from a parent (Oct 2011): Just to say thank you very much for slotting T. in on Saturday. He really enjoyed himself and was very pleased to get his badge and certificate. Thanks once again to all the HCT team for all the hard work you put in to organising things. Keep up the good work!

Training for Families

Family Cycle Training is based on the Bikeability Level 1 syllabus. Participants are trained in family groups, so adults can support their children and learn new skills at the same time! We include advice on checking bikes, going for family cycle rides, and riding as a group. All participants are awarded a certificate and a badge, and those who achieve the Level 1 standard are awarded the Bikeability Level 1 badge and certificate.

Each session lasts 3 hours, to include a bike and helmet safety check at the start. Advance bookings only. The cost for this course is £10 per adult and £5 per child. Parents must stay with their children.

On-Road Cycle Training for Trainees aged 9 years+

This course is aimed at participants who have achieved Bikeability Level 1.

The training follows the Bikeability Level 2 syllabus and is entirely on-road. Participants must have achieved Bikeability Level 1 in order to take part and be at least 9 years old.

The training is delivered in three sessions of 2-3 hours (the first session if longer to allow enough time for bike and helmet checks). Participants are expected to attend all three sessions. Cycle Aylesbury subsidises Level 2 training. The course costs £35 per person.

Testimonies from parents (Nov. 2011): Just to say thank you so much for the course, O. absolutely loved it...

O. really enjoyed his 2 days on bikeability 2, and is really chuffed with the result. He had a great time, and has been demonstrating what he learnt. Keep up the good work.

Advanced On-Road Cycle Training for secondary school pupils or adults

This course is aimed at participants who have achieved Bikeability Level 1 and Level 2 and are proficient cyclists with a good road awareness.

The training follows the Bikeability Level 3 syllabus and is entirely on-road. Participants must have achieved Bikeability Level 1 and 2 in order to take part and be at secondary school (or adult). This course helps cyclists deal with more challenging road conditions such as roundabouts, filter lanes, traffic lights and busier roads.

The training is delivered in three sessions of 2 hours, either in Thame or in Aylesbury. Participants are expected to attend all three sessions. The course costs £60 per person.
