As part of the Bikeability funding grant the Department for Transport has agreed pay a £400 bursary to anyone wishing to attend the 4-day IT course run by Haddenham Cycle Training - ITO. Please check details and conditions below.

- Day 1 focusses on Bikeability Level 1
- Days 2 and 3 concentrate on Bikeability Level 2
- Day 4 covers Bikeability Level 3
Our courses are held in Haddenham and in Aylesbury, Bucks.
It is essential that candidates attend all 4 days as they are continually assessed. Trainee Instructors must bring a bike and helmet to all 4 days of the course and be able to ride confidently to Level 3 (see National Syllabus)
As long as trainee Instructors meet the required outcomes, they will be awarded provisional National Standard Instructor status at the end of the course. In order to achieve full Accreditation, Instructors must set up and run some training, which will be assessed by one of our Mentors.
The cost of the course is £600 per person, to include 4 days training, course materials, tea/coffee, registration with the DfT and up to two post-course Assessments at a school or workplace of your choice.
Places are limited, so to book a place please call Francesca Flaxton direct on 07554 141 810. You can download our Registration form and Pre-course questionnaire.
Funding for Bikeabilitly cycling instructor training in buckinghamshire
As part of the Bikeability funding grant agreement received from the Department for Transport, Buckinghamshire County Council can fund the training of new National Standard Cycling Instructors or Assistant Instructors provided funding is still available.
However it would be expected of the recipients of the bursary to deliver an equivalent number of free training places, currently £40 per child.
The current amount available towards the cost of Instructor training is £400, meaning each new instructor would be expected to train 10 Buckinghamshire children for free.
All applications for funding should be made by the Instructor Training Organisation (ITO) that the new cycle trainer will be training with.
Application process for bursaries to become a bikeability cycling instructor
- All correspondence will be between BCC and the ITO
- The ITO needs to receive written confirmation from BCC that funding is still available before offering a bursary to any potential new Cycling Instructors/Assistants
- Once a bursary has been agreed, the ITO needs to ensure that the recipient of the grant understands that they need to train 10 Buckinghamshire children for free in order for the ITO to receive payment.
- The potential new Cycling Instructor/Assistant must pay all fees up front directly to the ITO
- Invoices will not be settled until we receive written confirmation from the ITO that the Instructor training has been completed and the newly qualified Instructor has trained 10 Buckinghamshire school children.
- Invoices to be sent by the ITO direct to BCC Bikeability Administrator who will arrange payment.
- As long as the above conditions are met, the ITO will refund £400 directly to the newly qualified Cycling Instructor/Assistant.
